History

CALACS was founded in 1990 by feminists collaborating with the Centre de femme (women’s center) l’Étincelle. At this time the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux decreed a regional vocation as a condition for financing.  This organization has been working for the women of the North shore for nearly 20 years. Since the beginning, the Center has demonstrated its openness to women who are particularly discriminated against and aboriginal women regardless of where they live on the North Shore. Alternative means were developed to join far-off, rural communities via different foundations and provincial and federal ministries such as Health Canada.
