Some observations

The Côte-Nord region ranks the first (that is, ...the worst!)  in terms of the rate of sexual offenses in Québec

• In nearly 90% of cases, the victim of a sexual assault is a girl or a woman;
• Over 10% of Quebec women: sexually assaulted before age 15;
• In Canada, over 60% of aboriginal women have been physically or sexually assaulted in their lifetime;
• Highest rates: young people aged 15 to 24;
• Over 80% of victims know their sexual assailant;
• In over 90% of cases, the alleged perpetrator is a boy or a man;
• More than 50% of sexual assaults on adults take place in a private residence or on private property;
• Women are more often victims of sexual assault by a spouse or intimate partner (current or former) than men;
• A minority of sexual assaults reported to the police are committed with a weapon or cause physical injury;
• A small proportion of sexual assaults are reported to the police each year.
